Noise Gating: The Easiest Way To Clean Up a Voice Over

Read Time: 1 min

Noise gates can make a voice over sound clean and professional in seconds if you use them correctly. Using them incorrectly means a voice will instantly sound unnatural, disjointed and just plain weird.

In this short video tutorial, I'll show you how to properly use a noise gate on a voice recording.

By adjusting one single parameter on the noise gate you can turn it into a downward expander. Expanders sound more natural and are less destructive.

If you have ever gone through and edited a voice over, syllable for syllable, you'll know it's boring and time consuming. Removing every breath, click and unwanted mouth noise can take hours—especially for audiobooks and podcasts.

There's an easier way. By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to use noise gates to remove any unwanted noise, in a voice over, in seconds.
